From Daycare Center to Craftsmanship

A group of concerned Augusta residents started the Augusta Area Cerebral Palsy Society in 1947. The members of this group had a deep concern for the welfare of area children with CP. In its infancy, the program was more of a daycare center for children. In the late '60s, the society split into two entities -- ATSH and CPS. Before these changes were made the programs were geared mostly toward daycare services for disabled residents of all ages. The program placed no emphasis on productivity.

GOVERNANCE

Augusta Training Shop, Inc., is governed by dedicated board members who meet monthly to assist in carrying out the mission and policies of the organization. This Board of Directors is responsible for establishing policies and procedures, assessing and reviewing finances, assisting with strategic planning and fundraising, and providing other services to our organization.

Our Employees

Today, our employees are among the very best at what they do and their quality craftsmanship proves it. Our workforce consists of individuals with various disabilities. We support a wide range of opportunities for individuals suffering from all types of disabilities and disorders. Employees receive a paycheck for the work they perform at the shop.

Our employees gain respect and acceptance because ATS has enabled them to show what they CAN DO. Families see their loved ones experience joy and make lasting friendships. The work reflects the dedication, worthwhile endeavor, and painstaking care the employees give to each task. The compassionate work is exemplified by the end result ... a beautiful, unique piece. Please help us put work into the hands of our talented employees!

Heartfelt words

Though our employees have to deal with setbacks on a regular basis, they are proud of their work and never complain. They show their determination and dedication with the intricate handiwork they perform ... and with their smiles. They love life more than anything you could ever imagine. They love to cultivate relationships within our community and they are always grateful for a kind word or a simple "hello."

We would like to strengthen our program through increased community involvement. We have such a unique agency and the fruits of our labor are dedicated wholly to a worthy cause. When people with disabilities become employees of ATS, they feel as if they are respected, productive and involved citizens. And in the bigger scheme of things, this not only promotes inclusiveness, but also diversity within our society.
